Fashion videos usually are designed to waste your time, as 99 percent of them are extremely boring and better was a still image.
Yet this video, made by Stevein Meisel for Balenciaga is great, wonderful colors and light, yet a bit Prada-ish. The beautiful soundtrack suggests that something is about to happen in this ant house, and nothing really happens, but i waited the whole two minutes and it was worth it.

My literary idol of year 2011 - A. J. Jacobs - is on TED again (TED is my other vice too) and he's talking how healthy living was killing him, as he attempted to become the healthiest living person on earth.

A. J. as a writer and a journalist, but I find his works very close to contemporary art. In his books and articles he writes about experiments he did with himself. He went on a quest and read whole Encyclopaedia Britannica to become the smartest person on earth, lived a year by the rules from the Holy Bible by taking them as literally as possible, lived by the rules of George Washington, outsourced his private life to India (even arguments with his wife and bedtime stories for his kids) so he could have more time to read. The healthy living was his latest experiment with his own self, so please watch the video and witness the awesome and the whimsy of mr. A.J.

I was trying to figure out how she achieves this eerie dusty mood in her pictures. She loves to work in the dark room trying out different things and she exposes her films on pre-flashed paper. And she takes pictures at dusk or dawn. And she is super talented.
And she's a winner of Hyeres fashion and photography festival in 2008.

The highlight of that evening for me was surely Maestro's act, very dense, intense and sexy, much darker than their studio recordings I think.

Last week I googled if Krikor is doing any shows in Paris, and I found he will be doing an opening act for Jamie Lidell. I like living in Paris.
So tonight he did a deep and beautiful slow groove live set for a crowd that probably wanted something up tempo.
Then after a while Lidell and his incredible live band took over and boy it didn't let go for those two hours. I wanted to write so much about it, but it is late and it's useless putting that in words, everybody should experience this performance themselves - as rich, professional, but yet somewhat effortless, stylish, full of love, jokes, sweat and drum sets.

I brought my camera with an empty battery to the concert and while I was trying to make something of the remains of its power I thought to myself "ką, aš durnė? Reikia mėgautis pasirodymu, o ne dėl kadro vargti" and I came up only with these very few shots.

Zoe's dinner time

I did a commission work for Zoe's Bar and Grill this spring. It is one of the best places to eat out in Vilnius. I did some menu designs for it, but I'm publishing only the background pictures I've arranged and shot. Leaving the design part aside is kinda odd, but I think the menu and the price list is the property of the restaurant, so it might be just another reason to visit it. 

The main menu itself is a double LP cover with actual vinyls inside.

I felt guilty again that the only thing I ever update in internet is my facebook profile.

I would like to invite everyone to Finland this summer, a beautiful city of Rauma, to take a look at Rauma Biennale Balticum 2010, where among many other artists, me and my lovely co-artists Kaspars Groshevs and Daria Melnikova are taking part at as well.

We will be installing the exhibition next week and survive the opening, after this I will update this blog with visual material from the exhibition.

Rauma Museum Shop is one of a very few stockists that sell my jewelry as well.

Another great thing is that I am going to work as an intern in my dream studio BLESS in Paris (room needed!) this autumn. BLESS did a big influence on me concerning its creative freedom over financial success and a broad range of expression. It really encourages me these days, when everyone tells you to be serious faced and not too complicated. Even though the boring stuff is for the interns, I'm still excited as hell.

This is my project I did in academy on inside out. It contains modified computer keyboard, mouse and a bunch of white gloves with keyboard's letters and signs embroidered on fingers. I just forgot to take pictures the gloves. Hope it will follow later!

Robert's books

Here's one thing that got me excited today - a bookshop I accidentaly found while walking in Riga. It sells (mostly) books in English from its owner's and his peers' libraries. The owner himself is Robert Cottrell, a former EU correspondent for The Economist and The Financial Times and an author for The New York Review of Books, has opened two bookshops under his name here in Riga already. The prices vary from as less as 0.5 Ls (0.7 eu) up to 7 Ls (10 eu) which erases Ebay from the map for a while.

I could not have left empty handed so I've got a copy of a classic - Capote's Breakfast at Tiffany's in mint condition and beautiful cover.

Yet Robert has another project - a referrential website The Browser, where he's posting the most interesting and read-worthy articles blogged daily.

And yes, I've been silent for a while, I'm a hasty blogger, but there are all kinds of visual stuff from my side I'll share very soon.

This is what I've got for Christmas from myself - elBulli: Food for Thought. Thought For Food, a book on food and art, Ferran Adria's creations at elBulli - world's finest restaurant, known for it's innovative cooking processes. The book is curated by the master himself, Richard Hamilton and MoMa's Vincente Todoli.

There are no recipes in this book, yet a lot of inspiring images and texts/discussions on food as an art form (Adria participated in Documenta 12, elBulli was one of the pavilions there). The recipes would be useless anyway, for conventional kitchen doesn't have the required high-tech equipment (vacuum-boiler, anyone?). Oh ok, I think there's an electric screwdriver somewhere at home to make olive oil caramel spring.

I wish I could quote all of it, but here's very few:

Wildbirds and Peacedrums is a Swedish duo - drums and voice (+ sometimes a steel drum), simple yet brilliant as that. The lady releases it and pushes her voice to the edge, quite rare and moving I think.

Suddenly I get to know, that they were supporting mighty Chrome Hoof - british doom-disco-rock always-looking-good orchestra, leaded by lovely notoriously-faced Lola, which is one third of Spektrum as well. Sadly enough both projects are silent for a while now.

Ok, so from this day on I'm starting to blog.
Since I've gone a bit international recently, that is, I found myself split between Vilnius and Riga, I decided to do it in English.

Surely, there are gazillion things I want to blog, but hey, ok, I'll start with one or two.

Here is this Icelandic visual artist Hrafnhildur Arnardottir, she labeled herself as Shoplifter (I like the name a lot, it's ungoogleable and irrelevant just like mine!). She's 40, living in NY and doing all these beautiful crazy things, mostly with hair and thread. I know it's helluva sweat to work with hair, basically you have to hold it tight and use a lot of hot air to arrange it.
