This is what I've got for Christmas from myself - elBulli: Food for Thought. Thought For Food, a book on food and art, Ferran Adria's creations at elBulli - world's finest restaurant, known for it's innovative cooking processes. The book is curated by the master himself, Richard Hamilton and MoMa's Vincente Todoli.

There are no recipes in this book, yet a lot of inspiring images and texts/discussions on food as an art form (Adria participated in Documenta 12, elBulli was one of the pavilions there). The recipes would be useless anyway, for conventional kitchen doesn't have the required high-tech equipment (vacuum-boiler, anyone?). Oh ok, I think there's an electric screwdriver somewhere at home to make  olive oil caramel spring.




I wish I could quote all of it, but here's very few:

Now, I don't know if I'll get to post again this year, but here's a song from summer 2009, which I think is that perfect white handkerchief to wave goodbye for the year passed. Actually, I hate celebrating new year (hate fireworks and hopelessness of the whole euphoria), but this song has that tickle, that makes me think about it with a smile.

Wildbirds and Peacedrums is a Swedish duo - drums and voice (+ sometimes a steel drum), simple yet brilliant as that. The lady releases it and pushes her voice to the edge, quite rare and moving I think.

Suddenly I get to know, that they were supporting mighty Chrome Hoof - british doom-disco-rock always-looking-good orchestra, leaded by lovely notoriously-faced Lola, which is one third of Spektrum as well. Sadly enough both projects are silent for a while now.

And after this I get to know that Chrome Hoof were sharing a stage with super producer JP Massiera. This is a classic, but he was hiding under loads of other names:

i hate glue

so maybe that's why I find these peaces so alluring - the pattern of these garments are laser cut and the pieces are assembled together like a puzzle without sewing it.

this is the start!

Ok, so from this day on I'm starting to blog.
Since I've gone a bit international recently, that is, I found myself split between Vilnius and Riga, I decided to do it in English.

Surely, there are gazillion things I want to blog, but hey, ok, I'll start with one or two.

Here is this Icelandic visual artist Hrafnhildur Arnardottir, she labeled herself as Shoplifter (I like the name a lot, it's ungoogleable and irrelevant just like mine!). She's 40, living in NY and doing all these beautiful crazy things, mostly with hair and thread. I know it's helluva sweat to work with hair, basically you have to hold it tight and use a lot of hot air to arrange it.

Oh, and here's a song about how I feel after two days of heavily delicious Christmas' food marathon - I'm in the bottom of the ocean and my body decomposes. (Harry Nilsson is my dead über-love).
